History
The history of Moscow, the capital of Russia, is a tale of centuries. It was first mentioned in the chronicles in 1147, when Yuri Dolgoruky, the Prince of Suzdal, invited his ally, the Prince of Novgorod-Seversky, to a feast. This event is traditionally considered the foundation of Moscow. The city grew rapidly and by the 15th century, it had become the capital of the Grand Duchy of Moscow, a precursor to the modern Russian state.
